INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE
"100 YEARS OF THE TUNGUSKA EVENT"
Krasnoyarsk - Vanavara - Zaimka Kulika
(June, 30 - July 6, 2008)


On the 30th of June 1908 a large airblast occurred in the Siberian taiga, near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River that became widely known as "Tunguska Event". Environmental effects of the explosion were observed almost in the whole northern hemisphere and many traces of the impact are still well preserved in the epicenter area. In spite of all the efforts of several generations of scientists from different disciplines and from many countries, there is still no complete and comprehensive explanation of the Event.

In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Tunguska Impact, the International Conference "100 years of the Tunguska Event" will be held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia on June 30 - July 6, 2008.

The organizers of the Conference are:

The programme of the anniversary events will consist of several parts: associated scientific conferences in Tomsk on May 1-3 and in Moscow on June 26-28, the main scientific conference in Krasnoyarsk on June 30 - July 2, a field trip to the site of the impact on July 3-7 and the 50th Jubilee Complex Initiative Expedition (July-August of 2008).

The main tasks of the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Conference are the following:

The amount and the way of payment of the Conference Registration Fee, the format and the deadline for abstract presentation as well as travel, accommodation and visa information will be provided in the Second Announcement that will be distributed in January of 2008. It is supposed that the Registration Fee will be kept within $200.

The selected papers presented at the Conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings.

Preliminary plan and schedule of the field trip to the Tunguska River (Zaimka Kulika):

July 3 - flight Kransnoyarsk -Vanavara by regular plane, attendance at the local folklore festival, overnight stay in a local inn
July 4 - flight to the site of the impact by a chartered helicopter
July 4-5 - field excursions over the impact area, 2-night stay in the camp
July 6 - return to Vanavara by a chartered helicopter and departure to Krasnoyarsk

The estimated cost of the field trip is $1,000-1,100. The exact amount will be determined based on the number of registered participants and announced airfare for the summer of 2008 and will be provided in the Second Announcement.
