Two-day Holocene Impact Working
Group (HIWG) Workshop is planned for June 26-27, 2008 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
The main focus of the workshop will be to discuss the progress achieved in
2007-2008 in HIWG projects implementation and plans for future research and
expeditions. This meeting will be held in Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center located
in Akademgorodok some 10 km south of Krasnoyarsk, will be hosted by the
Institute of Computational Modeling, Siberian Division, Russian Academy of
Sciences
On June 28-29 (Saturday and Sunday) the workshop participants will take part
in the field excursion in the Khakassia region staying for two nights in the
camping (wooden cabins) on the bank of the "Beley" Lake, some 250 km south-west
of Krasnoyarsk. This part of Khakasia is full of rivers, salt and fresh water
lakes, outcrops of Devon rocks, old volcanoes that makes this area to be a real
"geological park". One particular site of interest would be the "Krygloe" (Round)
Lake that have some unusual features that differ this lake from all others in this
area (depth up to 80 m, location on a slope of the hill, extremely cold and pure
water and a lot of associated Khakassian legends). In the following days (June
30 - July 3), the workshop participants will attend the International
Conference "100 years of the Tunguska Event" that will be held in the downtown
of Krasnoyarsk. The conference will be followed by the field trip to the site
of the 1908 impact (Vanavara - Zaimka Kulika) that is planned for July 4-6. On
July 7 all participant are supposed to leave Krasnoyarsk by international or
domestic flights.
