This section of the Encyclopedia on Natural Hazards contains the basic information about hurricanes and other Hazardous Atmospheric Phenomena (HAP) - tornado, heavy rain, heat wave, and lightning. Definitions of basic terms and classification of HAP are presented along with the basic scales used for measuring the HAP intensity. Lists of deadliest and most powerful hurricanes occurred during recent historical times are presented along with the photos, maps, diagrams of frequency, damage statistics and trajectories of movement.
